Untergrundlockerer ist nur für Lockern des Bodens bestimmt und der mit ihm zusammenarbeitende Striegel harkt auseinander und glättet die angehäufte Bodenfläche, was Dampfen des Wassers aus dem Boden reduziert und das Wachsen des während der Ernte bedeckten Saatgutes beschleunigt. Die Tätigkeit ist auf Feldern mit „Pflugsohle” durchzuführen, am besten nach der Ernte, wenn der Boden vertrocknet ist, auf dem gelockerten Acker sollen weitere Tätigkeiten nicht allzu früh durchgeführt werden, um ein erneutes Drücken des Bodens zu vermeiden. Untergrundlockerer kann auch bei der Vorbereitung des Bodens vor dem Anpflanzen der Obstbäume, der Beerensträuchern und der tief wurzelnden Pflanzen verwendet werden.
